PM Modi’s Twitter Account Hacked, Twitter “Actively Investigating”

Twitter confirmed on Thursday that an account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was hacked and posted with a series of tweets asking its followers to donate to a relief fund through cryptocurrency. Twitter said it was aware of the activity and has taken steps to secure the account and they are actively investigating the situation.

In the first tweet, the hacker asked the followers of the Twitter account to donate to the PM National Relief Fund for Covid-19 and claimed that the Indian government is accepting donations via Crypto Currency.

The account that hacked is not the personal account of Narendra Modi. It is the account that is connected with his Official Website got hacked. The tweets asking to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency have been taken down.

The last tweet from the account was on August 31. The tweet has a quote of PM Modi from his monthly radio programme “Mann Ki Baat“. Regular updates from the Modi’s speeches and other programmes are tweeted in this account – @narendramodi_in. PM Modi’s personal Twitter account, which was unaffected by this incident, has over 61 million followers
